Belle arrived at Blue Horse Rescue just before Christmas in 2015 with her companion, Bo. We called them the Christmas ponies. They came to us from a kill pen in Texas and we were very happy to be able to offer them a safe place to land.
Belle was adopted, along with Bo, and enjoyed eight - nine years in a wonderful home where they were both much loved and cared for. Belle just came back to Blue Horse Rescue on January 5, 2025 so we are getting to know her all over again. She is quite the character!
Belle is a very petite little pony with a huge heart and opinion to match just about any situation! She’s all mare and then some but once you meet her you can’t help but fall in love with this very independent spirit.
Today Belle is estimated to be 19 years old. She does have some special health considerations. Belle has a history of laminitis so we are carefully watching her diet and the green grass that is already shooting up everywhere. Luckily our pasture is pretty much a dry lot at the moment but we will be keeping an eye out for her.
In the meantime , Belle is doing what Belle loves - making friends with another little mare in the herd. It took about two weeks plus for the mare drama and squealing to lessen up but now Belle and Molly have formed the beginning of what looks like a good friendship. They are sticking close to each other and you only hear the occasional squeal with much less drama before they wander off together side by side. A friend at your side is always a good thing.
