Molly Meets Lizbeth & Lizbeth Meets Her Very First Horse
Sunny Makes the Big Move
Today was a big day for Sunny - she left her friends and person behind and loaded up and headed to her temporary new digs to start two months of training. I’m told she loaded better than expected but was understandably fussy once she realized her herd was staying behind. She’s doing nicely at her new place and the updates so far have all been good. Excited to see what the future holds for sweet Sunny. A big thank you to Hilary for the safe and amazing care she is providing for Sunny. Hilary’s communication, updates and photos as Sunny makes this transition to her new life have been much appreciated and definitely took away the stress of this little ones big move - thank you! We look forward to hearing even more and also to or first visit!
Meeting with Sunny Again!
In March 2022, Sunny came back to Blue Horse Rescue. Seeing this little one again, all grown up and so very beautiful was an amazing experience. We will continue on Sunny’s Journey in the world of humans and find her a home to call her own.
Sunny also met with wild horse trainer, Hilary Merrill who has agreed to evaluate Sunny and possible do some training with her to increase her confidence and willingness to trust and partner with a human. Looking forward to getting some more skills on board for this little one.
Yay! Sunny will be going into training with Hilary at the Wild Heart Restart Ranch!
Our Amazing Grace is Adopted!
Late in September 2019, Grace was found roaming. Her owners were nowhere to be found and many people stepped up to do the best for her. She did however, eventually land in a shelter with a limited amount of days before she would be euthanized. Our amazing foster mom Christina called her to our attention and between the two of us we were able to step up and rescue Grace at the very last moment on a Friday afternoon, just hours before her time ran out. We were never more thankful than when Grace was turned over to us at the last possible moment.
Christina has been fostering Grace for the past two years and pretty much fell in love with this kind senior mare. Christina has always provided the best of care for our senior horses. She has opened her home and heart to them all and has been with them when we have had to make the most heart felt decision of all. With all this said, I could not be happier to have Christina adopt Grace and give her a forever home. I know that she will always do what’s best for Grace. This is a perfect match and I’m very happy for them both. Grace will be loved and cared for and has definitely found a family that truly loves her. Thank you Christina for giving Grace a family. There are no words for the thank you that you deserve.
Plotting out the Lower Pasture Turnout!
A huge thank you to D’Arcy, Tod, Susi, Ken and Frank for all their hard work in getting the pasture up for our horses! It’s a definite work in progress and is so very much appreciated. Thank you all from my heart!
Anyone up for helping out with the wire? No? Hey! Where’d you all go?????

Winter Storm Clouds Approaching
Yikes! Look what’s heading our way!
March 10, 2021
Today brought quite a few weather fronts - everything from rain to thunder, lightning and hail. This was one of the more ominous storms and was pretty impressive as it approached. Happily all horses and minis did well. They seem to be accepting extreme weather conditions as a normal occurrence - they adapt well - probably better than we do! Many thanks to Sandy who spent the day at the barn keeping everyone as safe as possible. She did a great job as always!
We may have a new home for Blue Horse Rescue - Fingers Crossed!
My dream of horse pastures and a minimal commute (2 mins from my home) may just come true! More info to come as we get closer to finalizing our lease agreement. Exciting and very busy times to come!
Mud = Happiness
Molly remains 100% committed to being as muddy as she can for as long as she can!
Christmas at the Barn
Wishing you health, happiness, peace and love during these challenging times.
the twins and family come to visit!
Always a welcome sight are the twins coming to visit us under the big shade tree. Last summer a little orphan showed up only days old. He was quickly adopted by a doe that already had a baby at her side. The three of them would come visit in the evenings and enjoyed the fresh water in our turn out area. After the LNU fire swept thru in August we were very concerned about whether they had made it, so to see them with their herd and growing stronger just warms our hearts.
Mouse has had enough of his big blue ball!
The big blue ball is no more!
Feeling quite happy with himself; Mouse finally killed the big blue ball.
Little Girls and Horses
Love at first sight! Another horse crazy female in the making!
Visiting with Calvin and Hobbes in their New Home
Customer Appreciation Day @ Higby Country Feed
Every year Higby Country Feed has a customer appreciation day with lots of amazing gift baskets. This year Blue Horse Rescue won the Farnam gift basket and what a treasure chest it turned out to be! Many thanks - it was our lucky day! (www.higbyfeed.com)
Bath Time for Calvin and Hobbes
Our two little donkeys have finally agreed to a bath - it’s been a long time coming. While they allowed and tolerated this indignation their bright white clean coats did not stay that way for long - actually about a minute! Then everything was back to normal and a fine coat of mud was in place. Oh well, at least their skin is temporarily free from dirt, ash, dust and everything else little donkeys pick up along the way!
Hobbes is blissfully happy with a good dusting of dirt.
Calvin gets the prize for the most amount of dirt in the least amount of time!
