Today Sandy and I travelled up to meet Grace and also to be present for her first wellness check. Grace is a very sweet mare and so far is doing well with all the recent upheaval in her life. We are hoping she settles and begins to feel safe and cared for. At this point (due to hind end issues) she will be staying in our senior sanctuary for her remaining days.
A Lovely Picture of Grace
Already bonded with her caregiver, Grace comes forward for a handful of hay. I love this pic of her!
Bringing Grace to Our Sanctuary
Today was a big day for Grace and hopefully after this she will be able to relax and begin to enjoy her life again. She will be well cared for and loved. Many thanks to Christina and Melinda for hauling her safely.
Grace
Meet our new senior Grace. She came to us after the animal shelter in Orland had taken charge of her. She was found wandering with no one stepping forward to claim her or to offer her a home. Our BHR foster mom will be bringing her into her home. At this time we don’t know if Grace will be a permanent sanctuary member or if she will be available for adoption. Way too early to tell; we are just very happy to have her with us. Grace will be moving to our senior foster within the next few days. More to come!
Watching Out Over His Buddy
Instant buddies - Patriot and Mouse are the guys! But LuLu’s maternal instincts kick in every once in a while and she too checks in to make sure the little ones are ok.
Rain Gutters Go Up!
Big day for the barn today - we are getting brand new rain gutters before the winter storms come rolling in. There’s been a lot of work done to our little barn already but we still have a long way to go. A big thank you to Danny and Lucas for climbing up there and getting the job done. Next weekend it’s new gutters on the run side of the barn.
Grains for Patriot
Our resident grain face
Dinner Time for Molly and Mouse
The best time of the day! Other than breakfast of course!
Hay Delivery Day
Always a happy day!
Molly Enjoys the Shade Tree
During the very hot summers in Vacaville any bit shade is a luxury and much appreciated!
Kenny and Leann Come to Visit
A wonderful surprise today when Kenny and Leann came to visit. Not only did they get to check out our new barn and meet everyone but they also brought Leann’s Quad (and it’s blue!) so that I could move things more easily. I got a quick lesson and my top speed was less than 5 mph! Life on the edge!
Gravel and Mats for the first Shelter!
Kenny came out today to move gravel and place the mats in our first shelter. Things are definitely moving forward!
It's Time to Put up the Shelters
The weekend for some hard work is finally here. The shelters have arrived. We have a game plan and the temperature for the weekend is suddenly predicted to be triple digits! With D’Arcy leaving for Canada soon we had no choice but to safely get it done. It was once heck of a time!
The Littles Meet the Bigs
Today was an exciting day for us all - Molly and Mouse have moved into the barn from foster! And, the big horses and the mini’s all met ‘over’ the fence - it was a good meeting other than a squeal or two on LuLu’s part - a girl in her domain is a new thing and may take a little getting used to!
Calvin and Hobbes Head Off for their New Home
Today is the big day for Calvin and Hobbes. They will be heading off to their new home. They will be so missed, but at the same time I know they will have a great life up north. Travel well and be happy and healthy, little ones.
Spending Time with Calvin and Hobbes
Tomorrow is a big day for Calvin and Hobbes. We have been working towards an adoption for them and despite a few set backs they will be heading north to their new home this weekend. We have all become very attached to these boys but are also very happy that they have found a great place to land.
Dental Day for the Boys
Not one of Calvin and Hobbes’ favorite days but they were really good boys. The UC Davis Field Service vets are great and did a wonderful job with our little donkeys.
Calvin and Hobbes Explore the Barn
Nothing better than shade on a hot day and grains in the barn!
Patriot and LuLu arrive at our New Barn
While the plan was to keep Patriot and LuLu pastured at their boarding facility, it just wasn’t in the works. LuLu’s respiratory disease was becoming more labor intense as summer bore down on us and while we were working on getting the barn ready, Patriot had a run with a fence and severed a small artery. He was very lucky and it was caught in time and with a little suturing and a lot of antibiotics he was okay. But, obviously they no longer qualified as horses that could be boarded out. Happy to have them with me and very pleased that they are settling in nicely.
Time to Build Some Paddocks!
Exciting day as the panels and supplies to get our paddocks built begin to be delivered. Can’t wait for the work to begin.
